1996 konnten im Park von Schloss Moritzburg einige Kisten geborgen werden, die einen Schatz von Goldschmiedearbeiten enthielten, den die Prinzen von Sachsen 1945 dort vergraben hatten. Die wichtigsten Werke, zwei große gotische Reliquienkreuze, gelangten 2001 als Schenkung der Renate König-Stiftung in die Sammlung von Kolumba. Das umfassend illustrierte Werkheft legt nun die wechselvolle Geschichte der Kreuze vor, die bis in das Jahr 1267 zurückverfolgt werden kann, und befragt die heilgeschichtliche Bedeutung der Reliquiare.

The cult of St. Ursula and the Eleven Thousand Virgin Martyrs of Cologne was the most widespread relic cult in medieval Europe. The sheer abundance of relics of the Eleven Thousand Virgins, which allowed for the display of immense collections, shaped the notion of corporate cohesion that characterized the cult. Though the primacy of St. Ursula as the leader of this holy band was established by the tenth century, she was conceived as the head of a corporate body.
